Carbon net Zero and PAS 2060

Currently, the ISO 14064 international standard which has been in place for some years now, is the global standard for monitoring and recording emissions which then can allow organisations to trade in carbon offsets around the world.
With an eventual aim to achieve carbon neutrality in the UK by 2050, as set by the UK government as a target to reach, the PAS 2060 standard which was developed and administered by the BSI -British Standards Institute will take the ISO 14064 standard one step further allowing organisations aim to reach Carbon net zero.
The PAS standard involves measuring Carbon Dioxide generation by taking into account fuel use primarily but added to the secondary generation of CO² contribution from the materials used in manufacturing or sustaining the service, from information provided by their suppliers or taken from standard reference tables.

Already, the details required from this secondary generation of CO² is now leading to blue chip companies, who are trying to work out their carbon footprint, to demanding the same information from their suppliers for each particular product or service provided.. The secondary suppliers will not be able to consider their Carbon footprint until their suppliers can provide the information, and so on. The net effect will be that we are in line to know and able to provide this information sooner or later.
Once this information is available to an organisation, they can set their policies on energy and other Carbon resource management. There are so many ways to counter and reduce the Carbon footprint that with a little imagination and thinking, every organisation should be able to demonstrate that they are showing a reduction in output over time and meeting any commitments made in their policies.
Note: It is widely recognised that PAS 2060 will soon gain international status as an ISO standard become the universal requirement. Why not apply for this standard, get ahead of the game and let the world know that you are an ethical, progressive and imaginative company.
